Created in 2002 by Vietnamese-American students at Harvard University, VietHope sought to rectify systemic academic imbalances in Vietnam. The group’s mission—to enable low-income students through opportunities to education—arises from understanding that monetary hardship remains the main barrier to scholastic adherence.

### Projects and Effect

1. Higher education Scholarship Program (USP):

– Provides between $300 and $400 per year

– Recipients are required to exhibit scholastic excellence (base GPA of 3.0)

– Gradual funding structure encourages educational adherence

2. Scholastic Development Program (MDP):

– Gives $150 USD annual scholarships

– Features vocational training and occupational counseling
